Physalis minima (wild/small Cape gooseberry) is a lantern-fruited relative of Physalis angulata, used across Asia for fevers, inflammation, the liver, diabetes and the gut. Only the RIPE berries are eaten — the unripe green fruit and foliage contain solanine-type alkaloids and physalins and can be toxic in quantity. Its immune-modulating action means caution with immune conditions and immunosuppressant medicines.
