Doronicum plantagineum (plantain-leaved leopard's bane) is a spring-flowering yellow daisy grown mainly as a garden ornamental. The old name 'leopard's bane' was historically muddled with genuinely poisonous plants (aconite, and the unrelated arnica), but Doronicum itself is relatively low-risk. Doronicum is little studied pharmacologically; its extracts contain sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids and phenolics with antioxidant activity, but there is scant modern evidence for its old tonic uses. Its main significance is botanical and historical — it was long confused with more dangerous 'banes' — and today it is grown as an ornamental.
