Orobanche major (greater broomrape; broadly, the broomrape complex including O. rapum-genistae) is a non-green parasitic plant that lives on the roots of other plants (especially brooms and legumes). Had minor traditional use, as with other broomrapes, as an astringent for diarrhoea and on wounds, and as a mild sedative/'nerve' herb; it is chiefly of botanical and agricultural interest (some broomrapes are crop parasites) rather than a practical medicine.له استعمالٌ تقليدي طفيف، كسائر الهالوك، قابضاً للإسهال وعلى الجروح ومهدّئاً/عشبة «أعصاب» خفيفة؛ وهو أساساً ذو اهتمامٍ نباتي وزراعي (فبعض الهالوك طفيلياتُ محاصيل) لا دواءً عملياً.

Because broomrapes take up substances from their host plants, a broomrape growing on a toxic host could carry harmful compounds — so identity of both parasite and host matters.
