Pongamia pinnata (karanja, Indian beech; syn. Derris indica) is a tree whose seed oil ('karanja oil') and other parts are a classic Ayurvedic skin and wound medicine — used for eczema, psoriasis, scabies, ulcers, rheumatism and as an antiseptic. Its compounds karanjin and pongamol have documented anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity, and the seed oil is antibacterial and antifungal.
