Research
Lavandula stoechas is well studied: its essential oil has documented antimicrobial and antifungal activity, and phytopharmacological reviews summarise antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, neuroprotective and calming effects, alongside toxicological data. This supports its long Arab/Unani and Mediterranean use as a digestive, calming and antiseptic herb. The oil is camphor/fenchone-rich, so dosing matters. Evidence is largely preclinical.

☾ Prophetic reference☾
Lavandula stoechas is the ustukhuddus (أُسْطُوخُودُوس) / ḍarm (الضَّرْم) of classical Arab and Unani medicine and is discussed in the works of Ibn Sīnā, al-Rāzī and in Prophetic-medicine (Ṭibb Nabawī) literature as a warming herb valued especially as a 'broom of the brain' — a cleanser and tonic for the head, nerves and mood. It is a well-established heritage medicinal of the Arab-Islamic tradition (rather than resting on a specific prophetic ḥadīth).
Adult dosage
Flower infusion 1–2 g in hot water 2–3× daily; essential oil diluted for topical/aromatic use; do not swallow the neat oil.
Child dosage
A weak tea for older children; do not use the camphor-rich oil near infants' faces (breathing risk).
Caution
The tea is gentle and pleasant. The essential oil is camphor/fenchone-rich and can be neurotoxic/convulsant in large internal doses — never swallow the neat oil, keep it well-diluted for skin, and keep camphor-type oils away from the faces of babies and young children. Use cautiously with sedative medicines. Patch-test on sensitive skin.
Pregnancy & nursing
Tea/aromatic use is generally gentle; avoid the camphor/fenchone-rich concentrated oil internally in pregnancy and use topically only well-diluted.
