Glaucium corniculatum (red horned poppy) is a poppy-family plant closely related to the yellow horned poppy (Glaucium flavum). Like its relative it contains toxic isoquinoline alkaloids (aporphines such as glaucine, plus others) that can affect the nervous system. Glaucium species contain aporphine alkaloids (notably glaucine, which has genuine antitussive/bronchodilating pharmacology but also toxic, hallucinogenic effects in overdose) and other isoquinoline alkaloids; extracts show antioxidant and antimicrobial activity in vitro. G. corniculatum shares this toxic alkaloid chemistry, so despite historic folk use it is a plant to know and treat as toxic, not to self-medicate with. Had limited historic folk use as a cough remedy, sedative and mild analgesic (paralleling the aporphine alkaloid glaucine, used pharmaceutically as a cough suppressant in some countries), and applied to skin; because of its toxicity these uses are risky and largely obsolete.كان له استعمالٌ شعبي تاريخي محدود علاجاً للسعال ومهدّئاً ومسكّناً خفيفاً (بموازاة الغلوسين المستعمَل دوائياً مثبّطاً للسعال في بعض البلدان) ويُوضَع على الجلد؛ ولسميّته هذه الاستعمالات خطرة ومهجورة غالباً.
