Research
Marshall's thyme, like other thymes, yields a thymol/carvacrol-type (or geraniol-rich) essential oil with strong antimicrobial and antioxidant activity in laboratory studies; Thymus-genus reviews and thyme-oil studies support its traditional use as an antiseptic expectorant for coughs and its role as a food/oral antimicrobial. Human clinical data are mostly from common thyme (T. vulgaris).

Adult dosage
Herb infusion 1–2 g in hot water 2–3× daily; as a gargle when cooled; essential oil only diluted and not swallowed undiluted.

Caution
Thyme tea is very safe in food/tea amounts. The essential oil is potent — never swallow it undiluted, keep it well away from infants' faces (thymol/menthol-type oils can cause breathing problems in babies), and use cautiously if allergic to mint-family plants.
Pregnancy & nursing
Culinary/tea amounts are fine; avoid concentrated oil and high medicinal doses in pregnancy.
