Introduction
Salvia africana-lutea (beach/golden sage, bruinsalie) is an aromatic South-African coastal sage with rusty-gold flowers. Like garden sage it is used for coughs, colds, chest and digestive complaints, women's ailments and the skin, and studies confirm antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

Research
Studies of Salvia africana-lutea leaf extracts and essential oil confirm antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity from its diterpenes, rosmarinic acid and flavonoids, consistent with the wider Salvia (sage) genus and with its traditional use for coughs, colds, the chest and digestion. Evidence is largely preclinical.
