Sapindus emarginatus (soapnut, reetha/aritha) is a tree whose saponin-rich fruit pods lather in water and are a classic natural soap and shampoo, used for washing hair, skin, jewellery and textiles. Medicinally the fruit is used for hair and scalp health, skin problems, dandruff, lice and (as a sniff/paste) for migraine. Its saponins have antimicrobial, insecticidal and anti-inflammatory activity. ⚠️ It is chiefly a cleansing/external agent.جوز الصابون (Sapindus emarginatus، ريثا/أريثا) شجرةٌ قرون ثمارها الغنية بالصابونين ترغّي في الماء وهي صابونٌ وشامبو طبيعي كلاسيكي، تُستعمل لغسل الشعر والجلد والحُلي والمنسوجات. وطبّياً تُستعمل الثمرة لصحّة الشعر وفروة الرأس ومشكلات الجلد والقشرة والقمل و(نشوقاً/عجينةً) للشقيقة. ولصابونيناتها نشاطٌ مضاد للميكروبات ومبيد للحشرات ومضاد للالتهاب. ⚠️ وهي أساساً عاملُ تنظيف/خارجي.

⚠️ The saponins foam and are irritant — keep soapnut liquid out of the eyes (it stings), and avoid swallowing it, as saponins can cause nausea, vomiting and gut irritation. It is essentially a cleanser and external remedy; any internal use should be small and guided.
