Its active naphthoquinone plumbagin has documented anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and anticancer activity, but is also an irritant and toxic in excess; experimental studies confirm the root’s uterine-stimulating, fetotoxic and abortifacient effects. CAUTION: Plumbago rosea root contains plumbagin, a skin/mucosa irritant that is toxic in excess and can cause vomiting, diarrhoea and — critically — miscarriage (it is a known abortifacient). It must be used only in tiny, classically processed doses by a qualified practitioner. Do NOT use in pregnancy, and do not apply the raw root to the skin without care (it can blister).تحذير: يحوي جذر «بلومباغو الوردية» «بلومباغين»، وهو مُهيّج للجلد والأغشية سامّ بالإفراط، قد يُسبّب قيئاً وإسهالاً و— بالغ الأهمية — إجهاضاً (فهو مُجهِضٌ معروف). ولا يُستعمل إلا بجرعاتٍ ضئيلة مُعالَجة كلاسيكياً على يد مختصّ مؤهّل. ولا يُستعمل في الحمل، ولا يُوضَع الجذر النيّئ على الجلد دون حذر (قد يُحدث بثوراً).
