Blumea balsamifera (sambong, Ngai camphor plant) is a camphor-scented Southeast-Asian shrub famous as a kidney herb — a diuretic used to help pass and dissolve kidney stones (and marketed as 'sambong' tablets in the Philippines). Studies confirm Blumea balsamifera has diuretic and kidney-stone-dissolving (anti-urolithiatic) activity, along with antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects, and it is an approved herbal medicine ('sambong') in the Philippines for the urinary tract and mild oedema. The leaves are also a commercial source of Ngai camphor. Generally well tolerated as a tea. As a diuretic, drink plenty of water and take care if you use diuretic or blood-pressure medicines, and if you have kidney disease. Large kidney stones and any fever, severe pain or blood in the urine need medical care — don't rely on the herb alone. The concentrated camphor oil is not for internal use.جيّد التحمّل عموماً شاياً. وكمُدرّ، اشرب ماءً وفيراً واحذر إن كنت تستعمل مُدرّات أو أدوية ضغط، أو لديك مرض كلى. والحصى الكبيرة وأيّ حمّى أو ألم شديد أو دمٍ في البول تحتاج رعايةً طبية — لا تعتمد على العشبة وحدها. والكافور الزيتيّ المركّز ليس للاستعمال الداخلي.
