Research

Reviews and studies of kinkeliba document a rich antioxidant flavonoid content with hepatoprotective, choleretic (bile-stimulating), diuretic, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity, and recent work shows benefit in a colitis model with a reassuring toxicity profile at usual doses — supporting its long use as a healthful 'liver and digestion' tea. Human clinical data remain limited.

Leaf/twig infusion or decoction, a small handful per pot, as a daily tea.

Child dosage

Caution

Generally well tolerated as a tea. As a diuretic, drink enough water and don't overuse; because it stimulates bile, avoid it with gallstones blocking the bile duct. It may add to diuretic or blood-sugar medicines. As with any 'detox/weight' tea, use it as part of a balanced routine, not as a substitute for medical care.

Pregnancy & nursing

Occasional mild tea is traditional, but avoid strong/frequent medicinal doses in pregnancy (diuretic and bile-stimulating).
