Lobelia chinensis ('ban bian lian', Chinese lobelia) is a small creeping herb used in Chinese medicine to 'clear heat and resolve toxicity', promote urination and reduce swelling — famously for snakebite and insect stings, and for oedema, ascites and 'damp-heat' jaundice. It contains lobeline-type piperidine alkaloids and flavonoids with diuretic, anti-inflammatory and antitumor activity.
