Introduction
Erica cinerea (bell heather) is a purple-flowered heather used in folk medicine as a diuretic and urinary antiseptic, like other heathers. Its arbutin and polyphenols give urinary-tract, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

Research
Like tree heath and other Erica species, bell heather contains arbutin (a mild urinary antiseptic) and antioxidant/anti-inflammatory polyphenols, supporting its traditional use for the urinary tract. Reviews of the Erica genus document antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity; species-specific clinical data are limited.
