A polyphenol-rich fraction of Thymelaea hirsuta lowered blood sugar and blood pressure and protected pancreatic, kidney and liver tissue in diabetic rat models, giving scientific support to its folk antidiabetic use. However, the plant contains irritant diterpene esters, so only carefully prepared, low doses are appropriate. Human data are limited.خفّضت جُزيئةٌ غنيّة بالبوليفينول من المِتنان سكر الدم والضغط وحمت نسيج البنكرياس والكلى والكبد في نماذج الجرذان السكرية، بما يمنح سنداً علمياً لاستعماله الشعبي المضاد للسكري. لكن النبتة تحوي إسترات ديتربينية مُهيِّجة، فلا تناسب إلا الجرعات المنخفضة المُحضَّرة بعناية. والبيانات البشرية محدودة.
