Pimpinella major (greater burnet-saxifrage) is an aromatic umbellifer whose spicy root is a traditional expectorant, antitussive and digestive, closely related to the classic burnet-saxifrage (P. saxifraga). It is used for coughs, bronchitis, catarrh and sore throats (as a gargle) and to aid digestion, with antimicrobial and astringent activity.البِمبينلّة الكبرى (Pimpinella major) نبتةٌ خيمية عطرية جذرها الحرّيف طاردٌ للبلغم ومسكّنٌ للسعال وهاضمٌ تقليدي، قريبةٌ للبِمبينلّة الكلاسيكية (P. saxifraga). وتُستعمل للسعال والتهاب القصبات والنزلة والتهاب الحلق (غرغرةً) ولإعانة الهضم، بنشاطٍ مضاد للميكروبات وقابض.

Pimpinella species (major and saxifraga) contain a spicy essential oil, coumarins and saponins with expectorant, antimicrobial and digestive activity, in keeping with their traditional use as a cough, catarrh and throat remedy and a digestive bitter (burnet-saxifrage root is a recognised European folk expectorant). Root used as an expectorant and antitussive for coughs, bronchitis, hoarseness, catarrh and asthma, as a gargle and mouth rinse for sore throat and inflamed gums, as a bitter digestive and carminative for indigestion and wind, and for the urinary tract; also used to flavour drinks.يُستعمل الجذر طارداً للبلغم ومسكّناً للسعال للسعال والتهاب القصبات والبحّة والنزلة والربو وغرغرةً ومضمضةً لالتهاب الحلق واللثة الملتهبة ومُرّاً هاضماً وطارداً للريح لعسر الهضم والريح وللمسالك البولية؛ ويُستعمل أيضاً لتطييب المشروبات.

Cautionتحذيرات
Because it contains furanocoumarins, it can cause photosensitivity (skin reacting to sunlight) in some people, especially with the fresh plant or oil — avoid strong sun on treated skin and handle the fresh root with care. As an Apiaceae plant, be sure of correct identification (some carrot-family plants are toxic).
