Erica tetralix, like other Ericaceae (heather, bearberry), contains arbutin, flavonoids and tannins and shows antioxidant, astringent and antimicrobial activity, underlying its traditional urinary-antiseptic and diuretic use. Evidence is preclinical; the best-evidenced arbutin urinary herb in this family is bearberry, and Erica is a gentler relative.الخلنج رباعي الأوراق، كسائر الخلنجيات (الخلنج، عنب الدبّ)، يحوي أربوتين وفلافونويدات وتانينات ويُظهر نشاطاً مضاداً للأكسدة وقابضاً ومضاداً للميكروبات، وهذا وراء استعماله التقليدي مطهّراً بولياً ومُدرّاً. والأدلة قبل سريرية؛ وأحسن عشب أربوتين بوليّ دليلاً في الفصيلة هو عنب الدبّ، والخلنج قريبٌ ألطف.

Used as an astringent urinary antiseptic and diuretic tea for cystitis, urethritis, bladder and kidney complaints and gravel, as a general astringent for diarrhoea, and (like heather) as a mild calming and 'cleansing' beverage.يُستعمل شاياً قابضاً مطهّراً بولياً ومُدرّاً لالتهاب المثانة والإحليل وشكاوى المثانة والكلى والرمل وقابضاً عاماً للإسهال و(كالخلنج) مشروباً مهدّئاً خفيفاً «منقّياً».

Cautionتحذيرات
For short-term urinary use only (arbutin/hydroquinone is discouraged for prolonged use). High in tannins (hard on the stomach), works best in alkaline urine, and should be avoided in pregnancy, breastfeeding and kidney disease. Do not rely on it for a serious or feverish urinary infection — seek medical care.للاستعمال البوليّ القصير فقط (يُثبَّط الأربوتين/الهيدروكينون للاستعمال المطوّل). عالي التانين (شاقّ على المعدة)، ويعمل أفضل في بولٍ قلويّ، ويُتجنَّب في الحمل والرضاعة ومرض الكلى. ولا يُعتمَد عليه لعدوى بوليّة شديدة أو محمومة — فيُلتمَس العلاج الطبي.

Avoid in pregnancy — arbutin-containing urinary herbs are not considered safe then.يُتجنَّب في الحمل — أعشاب البول الحاوية للأربوتين لا تُعدّ آمنة حينها.
