The balsam ('storax') was used since antiquity as incense and a fumigant, and as an antiseptic balm for wounds, scabies and skin problems, and an expectorant for the chest; the seeds were used cautiously in folk medicine.استُعمل البلسم («الأسطُرَك») منذ القدم بَخوراً وتبخيراً، وبلسماً مطهّراً للجروح والجَرَب ومشكلات الجلد، ومُقشِّعاً للصدر؛ واستُعملت البذور بحذرٍ في الطبّ الشعبي.

Fragrant resins and incense (bakhūr) have a valued place in Arab and Islamic tradition for perfuming gatherings and the home; storax was among the classical aromatic balsams of the region. This is cultural/aromatic heritage rather than a specific prophetic prescription.للراتنجات العطرة والبَخور مكانةٌ مُقدَّرة في التراث العربي والإسلامي لتعطير المجالس والبيت؛ وكان الأسطُرَك من البلاسم العطرية الكلاسيكية في المنطقة. وهذا تراثٌ ثقافي/عطري لا وصفةٌ نبوية محدّدة.

Used mainly externally as balsam/ointment, or as incense; internal use only under guidance.يُستعمل أساساً خارجياً بلسماً/مرهماً، أو بَخوراً؛ والاستعمال الداخلي بإشراف فقط.

Cautionتحذيرات
The balsam can irritate sensitive skin — patch-test first. The seeds contain saponins/benzofurans and were traditionally used as a fish poison, so the raw seeds should not be eaten. Prefer external and aromatic use; keep incense smoke away from those with asthma.قد يُهيّج البلسم الجلد الحسّاس — اختبِر رقعةً أولاً. وتحوي البذور صابونينات/بنزوفيورانات واستُعملت تقليدياً سُمّاً للسمك، فلا تُؤكَل البذور الخام. فضِّل الاستعمال الخارجي والعطري؛ وأبعِد دخان البَخور عن مرضى الربو.
