Research

Reviews confirm anti-inflammatory, liver-protective, fever-reducing, immune-modulating and antidepressant effects of the root and its saikosaponins, supporting its role in classic ‘liver-harmonising’ formulas. Note: rare cases of ‘Sho-saiko-to’ (a Bupleurum formula) causing lung inflammation are documented. Human evidence is mixed.
